Commercial Structural and Civil Engineering
DVC Engineering provides commercial structural and civil engineering services to contractors, architects and developers across London and the South East. We support projects from early feasibility through to construction completion, with fixed-fee appointments and technically robust deliverables.
Structural Engineering for Commercial Clients
Commercial structural and civil engineering appointments demand a higher level of coordination, documentation and programme awareness than standard residential commissions. DVC Engineering is structured to meet those demands, providing clear scopes of work, defined deliverables and direct communication with site teams, architects and building control officers throughout the project lifecycle.
We work on projects ranging from single-unit commercial fit-outs through to multi-storey refurbishments and new build commercial structures. Our fee proposals are fixed, agreed in writing before any work begins, and our calculations are prepared to Eurocode standards, ready for Building Control submission without further amendment.
Our Commercial Structural Engineering Services
Structural Design and Calculations
We produce structural calculations and drawings to Eurocode standards for commercial buildings, covering frame design, floor and roof systems, connections and foundations. Our packages are prepared for Building Control submission and coordinated with architectural and mechanical drawings to minimise clashes on site.
Alterations and Refurbishments
Structural alterations to commercial premises require careful assessment of the existing structure, clear design of the proposed works and a Building Regulations submission. DVC provides the full package, from initial structural appraisal through to calculation submission and site inspection, supporting programme delivery for contractors and tenants.
Steel Frame Design
We design structural steel frames for new commercial builds, mezzanines, canopies and internal structures. Our steel packages include member sizing, connection design, base plate design and fabrication drawings that can be passed directly to steelwork contractors.
Structural Surveys and Assessments
Pre-acquisition and pre-alteration structural surveys provide commercial clients with an independent assessment of structural condition and risk. We produce clear, well-structured reports suitable for use by solicitors, lenders, developers and procurement teams.
Due Diligence Inspections
We undertake structural due diligence for developers and investors acquiring or refinancing commercial property. Our reports identify structural risk, describe the condition of primary structural elements and highlight items requiring remediation prior to or following acquisition.
Temporary Works Design
Temporary propping schemes, shoring arrangements, facade retention structures and excavation support systems form a core part of our commercial offering. We work directly with main contractors to produce temporary works designs that are practical, safe and compatible with the construction programme.
Change of Use Projects
Converting commercial premises to residential use, or restructuring a building to accommodate a new commercial use, invariably requires a structural assessment and a design package. DVC has experience across a wide range of change of use projects, providing structural input from feasibility through to full Building Regulations submission.
Civil Engineering and Drainage Design
Below-ground drainage, SuDS strategies, soakaway design to BRE 365, retaining wall design to Eurocode 7 and external works form a core part of our commercial offering. We coordinate the civil engineering elements with the structural frame and foundations so that drainage, levels and below-ground infrastructure are consistent with the building design.
Planning Application Support
We prepare existing and proposed drawings, householder and full planning applications, and coordinate the planning submission with the structural and civil engineering design. We also discharge planning conditions, including drainage and SuDS conditions, and carry the project through to Building Control.
Supporting Contractors, Architects and Developers
DVC Engineering understands the commercial construction environment. Programme certainty matters. Building Control submissions must be technically correct to avoid delays. Structural drawings must be coordinated with architectural drawings to avoid costly site variations. We apply the same disciplines to every commercial commission, regardless of project value.
Civil engineering held in-house
DVC Engineering is a structural and civil engineering consultancy, so drainage, SuDS, retaining walls and external works are designed in-house and coordinated with the structural frame and foundations under a single appointment — reducing clashes, rework and Building Control queries.
