Our Structural and Civil Engineering Services in Newhaven
Local Knowledge
Newhaven is a port town at the mouth of the River Ouse, with a housing stock that reflects its history as a cross-Channel ferry terminal. Victorian terraces are found in the centre and the Meeching area, while inter-war semis and post-war development occupy the outer residential areas. The port and river introduce flood risk for some properties in the lower town.
The Ouse valley alluvium at Newhaven has different, lower-bearing ground conditions than the chalk South Downs above the town. Foundation design for extensions in the lower town must account for flood risk and alluvial soils. The chalk cliffs of the Castle Hill National Nature Reserve are an important local feature.
We cover Newhaven, Peacehaven, and the surrounding Lewes district coast.
